Christ Church on the Common

The Episcopal Church in Gardiner, Maine

Weddings

Christ Church welcomes couples seeking a Christian wedding in this historic church. The covenant of commitment between two people and God is a sacramental rite of The Episcopal Church and is an occasion that celebrates two people with all in attendance joyously participating in prayers, hymns, and thanksgiving to God. Christ Church welcomes gay and lesbian couples that wish to be married in The Episcopal Church.

Christ Church offers this rite and opens its sacred space to church members, their children or grandchildren, and those who seek to make Christ Church their spiritual home.

The Episcopal Church requires that at least one of the couple be a baptized Christian and that two witnesses attest to the marriage ceremony. Premarital counseling is also required. In addition to clergy approval, Christ Church requires the ceremony date be scheduled at least three months in advance.
